Steve Watt, PGA Director of Golf
Steve was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. However, Steve is ingrained with Midwest roots through and through. A portion of his childhood was spent in the Chicago Suburbs and his young adult years of high school and college here in Iowa. The Midwest has always been “home” and he holds the state of Iowa near and dear to his heart. Steve also became a US Citizen in July of 2020.
Steve’s first professional duties were as an Assistant Golf Professional in 2000 at Hillcrest Country Club in Long Grove, IL. He later served as the General Manger of a golf retail store in Iowa City, enhancing his merchandising and retail management skill set. In 2006, Steve migrated southwest to Arizona to join the team at the Desert Mountain Club in North Scottsdale. During his time at Desert Mountain he excelled at club fitting, retail, and honed his management skills as an Assistant Head Golf Professional (1st Assistant) for several seasons. Steve gained his Class “A” PGA membership in 2008, and thrives on golf operations management. Steve also proudly served as the Head Golf Professional at Phoenix Country Club from 2012 to 2014 before returning to Iowa.
Steve is currently an Iowa PGA Section Officer and finds time to give back to the game we all love to ensure a strong future of the game of golf. Steve also achieved the designation of Certified Professional by completing the certification process of Player Development in December 2019. He has also previously won the 2018 Iowa Section PGA Merchandiser of the Year – Private Category and the 2018 Iowa Section PGA’s PGA Professional Development Award. Steve is very much in tune with the Professional Shop and the newest merchandise, apparel, & club trends as a member of the Association of Golf Merchandisers (AGM).
Steve joined the Glen Oaks Country Club team in Mid-January of 2015 and looks forward to leading the Golf Operations Professional Staff of Glen Oaks Country Club for many years to come and being your golf ambassador. Steve is truly proud to serve as your Director of Golf.
Tom Juntunen, 1st Assistant Golf Professional
Tom grew up in Elk River, a small suburb of Minneapolis, Minnesota. In December of 2016, he graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Professional Golf Management. While at Nebraska he gained industry experience through internships at Medina Golf and Country Club in Medina, MN, TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, MN, as well as Evanston Golf Club in Skokie, IL. In January of 2017, Tom was elected to PGA Membership. In his free time he enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing golf or hockey, and running. He also enjoys watching sporting events, such as NFL football or NHL Hockey.
Payton Pick, Assistant Golf Professional
Payton grew up in Le Mars, a small town in Northwest Iowa. In May of 2018 he graduated from Buena Vista University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Entrepreneurship. During his time at Buena Vista Payton played on the baseball and golf teams. After graduation he moved to the Des Moines Metro where he worked as a recruiter and account manager for Apex Systems. In February of 2020 he joined Glen Oaks where he is now enrolled in the PGA program and beginning his journey to become a PGA member. In his free time Payton enjoys playing softball, watching sporting events and playing golf. Please welcome Payton the next time you see him!
Trever Whiting, Assistant Golf Professional
Trever grew up in Clay Center, NE. He’s a 2002 graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University. His first industry position was as an Assistant at Woodland Hills Golf Course in Eagle, NE in 1998 before moving on to being the GM at Valley View Country Club in Central City, NE in 1999. After graduating from college Trever coached college and professional football from 2002-2015. He returned to the golf industry in 2014 as the lead tech for TaylorMade Golf. He’s currently working on his election to the PGA. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his 2 boys, Parker and Quentin, golf, watching sports and getting to the lake.
Lori Gaffney-Burmeister, LPGA Class A Teaching Professional
We are very excited to announce Lori Gaffney-Burmeister to the Professional Staff at Glen Oaks Country Club. Many of you may know or have taken golf lessons from Lori. She has a wonderful reputation and has been teaching at Longview Golf Center for 26 years. She is now joining our team as a LPGA Class A Teaching Professional.Lori was a high school state champion at Valley High School, then went on to play college golf and graduate from The University of Georgia. She played golf professionally for a short time but discovered her passion for teaching people and promoting this great game of golf.Lori has been a member of the LPGA since 1987 and was trained by many exceptional instructors. She taught with The John Jacobs Golf Schools for several years in Florida, California, Arizona, Alabama, Missouri and Texas.Lori was named as one of the Top 50 Instructors in the country in 2002, 2007 and 2008.She loves to teach people of all ages and abilities. You will quickly see and learn that Lori has a gift at conveying her instruction in an effective, easy to understand and relaxed manner, that will quickly improve your golf game. Her energy and excitement is contagious! She is looking forward to helping each individual reach their goals. Please welcome Lori to the team when you see her next!
